How do you get prospective students to stop looking at their phone and look at a brochure? Our solution was to mimic a smartphone and focus on the story of one UM-Flint student, Nate. Using design elements from a smartphone, including graphics that look like texting and social media enhancements, “UM-Flint According to Nate” introduced students to a real UM-Flint student through a dialogue that gives a glimpse into the college experience. For this recruitment cycle, Nate was also part of the on-campus visits, and students could meet the person from the brochure, enhancing the authentic voice and design of the piece.
